Ready to begin using CattleLog?
Here are a few helpful hints to help you get started
on the right foot. |
| |
-
Set Goals: Start
with the cattle you want to collect information
on. Think through what you will be doing with these
cattle. If they will be sold to someone, you may
want to collect information that can help add value
when marketing. If you will keep them for some period
of time, you may be interested in weight gain, genetics,
vaccinations, or basic herd management.
|
| |
-
Match Your Collection
to Your Goals: Write down what information
you want to collect to meet your management goals.
You will need this list when ordering CattleLog
Data Services worksheets or creating protocols in
CattleLog Pro. Review this list at least once before
it is actually time to work cattle. Most beginners
try to collect too much information their first
time out. Start slowly, collecting fundamental items
(weights, tag numbers, sources) and work your way
up from there. On average, our customers collect
8-10 data fields per animal so it is okay to start
slowly.

-
Follow-Up on Your Goals:
Collecting information is just the starting point
in your information management process. After
all, you can't change what you don't measure.
If you collect information, make the time to
review these records and identify any adjustments
you need to make to your operation. Too many
customers ignore the value creation and cost-savings
insights that a simple 20-30 minute session in
Micro Beef Reports can provide.
